The purpose of this certification is to ensure that emergency responders and others who serve as Traffic Incident Management Personnel (TIMP) demonstrate the knowledge and skills competency related to managing and controlling traffic during roadway incidents. To help prepare the future generation of emergency services personnel, students from CPI’s Emergency Services Program also actively participate in educational programs housed at the CCPSTC. Business and industry are also invited to utilize the Center for their specialized safety and OSHA training requirements. ![]() With the recent completion of the Emergency Vehicle Operator Course (EVOC) module, the CCPSTC can now host on-site driving and vehicle training for public safety organizations – such as police departments, emergency service agencies, and others. The Center allows fire departments to take advantage of on-site apparatus certification thereby saving volunteers’ time and fire companies’ money. The CCPSTC also can provide up to date training on the latest OSHA standards to industry and businesses in the region. This facility is the result of a regional effort to provide training to police forces, firefighters, emergency services, and hazardous materials workers from across the state. The CCPSTC’s state-of-the-art training facility is located on 391 North Harrison Road in Spring Township, PA – adjacent to the Central Pennsylvania Institute of Science and Technology (CPI) campus. Information on all areas of engineering and technology can be found in the Engineering Library located in 325 Hammond Building. After successful completion of the safety training, any engineering student can use the Learning Factory on a walk-in basis for a Penn State-related activity. Training classes are offered in shop safety, machining, and welding. The Learning Factory provides modern design, prototyping, and manufacturing facilities, including machining (CNC and manual), 3D printing, welding, metrology, and CAD/CAM. ![]() The Learning Factory is a hands-on facility for engineering students to use in conjunction with capstone design and other courses, as well as research projects and student organizations.
